Colorado seems to be home to numerous unique events surrounding the dead, or in this case, the 'undead'. The
4th Annual Zombie Crawl, in Denver, Colorado, occurred on Saturday, October 24, starting at 3pm. The events lasted well into the evening, with the spirit and left-over zombies crawling the 16th Street Mall, well after dark. As visitors and other innocent bystanders, unaware of the event's existence, began to witness the 1,000 crowd of zombie-dressed individuals crawling the 16th Street Mall, curiosity allowed for some fun conversation and questions about what they were witnessing.
The event played out, starting with 'Zombie Makeup 101', which was followed by costume contests, a Thriller Dance (Michael Jackson), the Zombie Crawl starting at 6pm, ended with a concert by Boulder's
Widow's Bane. Growing each year, the event was bigger than it has ever been, with an estimated 4,000 participants. As gruesome as it may appear, the 2009 Zombie Crawl was a family friendly event, with many children and parents participating. There were countless amazing costumes and makeup jobs, making for a truly horrifying scene on the 16th Street Mall. Complements to all who participated, the time put into the event, and the peaceful manner in which it was carried out. The Denver Police Department, for their presence and invisibility during the event are also deserving of recognition.
