Grace Potter & The Nocturnals performed at the Fox Theater on Boulder, Colorado on July 1, 2009. As always their performance was incredible. The band puts on an entertaining show, while rocking out in a way that I have not seen from any other modern artists. She takes the soulful sounds of Bonnie Raitt and mixes it with a classic rock feel and sound that you probably haven't heard anywhere else. Grace Potter (lead vocals, guitar, organ, etc), Scott Tournet (guitar), Matthew Burr (drums), Catherine Popper (bass), and Benny Yurco (guitar) come together to give the audience an unforgettable show. GPN's show is especially memorable, because of the small venues that they use, along with their ability to form a connection with their audience. Many of the people that I talked to at the show are veterans of previous shows. Highly dedicated fans will help to ensure a long-lived career in rock for the band.
The opening band at this concert was
White Buffalo, a gritty power-trio, with a wide variety of emotion and depth to their music. They go from folky, mellow sounds, to 'George Thorogood' very quickly. It is always great to discover new music at a concert and be thrilled with the opening band.
